GOD WILL GRANT YOU REST

LIGHT FOR THE WAY
(Daily Devotional)

Topic: God Will Grant You Rest

Text:  "But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on
every side, so that there is neither adversary nor
evil occurrent (1 Kings 5:4).

When David was king, he spent time fighting
many battles. David was always in warfare
mode. However, when Solomon took the throne,
God gave him rest so he could build the temple.
God made it for Solomon as though there was no
evil anywhere around him. I am sure there were
some evil enemies, but God surrounded Solomon
in a cocoon of peace. Literally, God gave him a
break. It is easy to live every day feeling caught
in a war zone. Sometimes we get caught in that
zone simply because we approach every day
expecting to face a challenge. Yet God knows
there comes a point when you can only take so
much fighting. You need a break! Maybe the
reason we don’t experience those breaks is
because we don’t expect them. Solomon’s name
means “peaceful.” His name shows that he
expected peace. David was a born warrior and
God used that characteristic in him to take down
the giant and overcome the enemies of Israel.
There is a time for warfare; however, there are
times when God wants you to be in peaceful
mode, like Solomon, so you can focus on building
up your life. Smile today—it’s time to take a
break so you rest from all your troubles

PRAYER

Lord, I recognize that You want me to rest and
take a break from time to time. Show me how to
differentiate between times for war and times for
peace. I choose to take a break today, and I ask
that You would cover me with peace. In Jesus’
Name, amen.
