(Daily Devotional)

Topic: The Way Of Love

Text: "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the
truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the
brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure
heart fervently" (1 Peter 1:22).

The Bible reminds us that there are only two key
commandments to be concerned with. Jesus
taught them and we see the concept repeated
through the New Testament. It’s basically this:
Love God; love people. The first commandment
is love God with all your heart, and the
second is love your neighbor as yourself (see
Matt. 22:38-40). Why are these the only two
important commandments? Because if you love
God with everything that is within you, you don’t
want to sin and do wrong things because you
know it hurts His heart. And if you love people,
you won’t mistreat them or sin with them. This
level of love has a profound effect on your mind.
Not only does it cleanse your conscience, but
when you love others you don’t think sinful or
unkind thoughts about them. Your mind is
washed and uncluttered by offense and sinful
intentions. The Word unfeigned in First Peter
1:22 means to be sincere. In other words, it isn’t
a phony love that just hugs people at church and
then cuts them down behind their back or lives a
double life. It’s a love That is expressed by its
actions of integrity.
If you have had some trouble with wrong or even
sinful thoughts attacking your mind, begin by
reminding yourself to love and see how it causes
you to have purified thoughts.

*PRAYER*

Heavenly Father, teach me how to love my
brothers and sisters in Christ with sincerity. Show
me how to love You with all my heart. Wash my
mind and cause me to have purified thoughts
today. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
