TOPIC: MAKING YOUR MARRIAGE WORK  (Part 1)

TEXT:  “Discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you” (Pro.2:11)

By the grace of God I want to share with you a very sensitive issue that affects every single person on the planet. Because it’s either you are married, preparing to marry or remarry. By expert’s report about 90% of marriages in the world are not working and that’s why many are walking out of it.

 Amazingly as divorce rates are high we still see hundreds of people getting married on weekly basis. This goes to show that marriage was established by God not men. And the moment you enter into it, its not easy to come out of it. It becomes a lifetime journey. And it can either be a crown you wear or the cross you carry through your lifetime. But understand can preserve you as you go.

A lot of us are ‘myth informed’ about love and marriage. The myth of a perfect marriage is wide spread and dangerous among us. By setting unrealistic dreams, magic thinking. It misinforms, misleads and disillusioned us. Preparing us to walk away the moment our fantasies clashes with reality. Only the truth can set us free to find fulfillment in our marriage. So for the next few days we shall be looking at this truth. I will set this out by trying to debunk certain myths that’s making us get the whole thing all wrong

The first myth is the myth of ‘viral’ love: this insist that love must be caught  much like virus. ‘Some enchanted evening when you happen to be at the right place at the right time, it will zap you. You will catch the bug of love and enter into a lifetime of bliss! The problem is when you are worn out taking care of the kids, coming back late from work all tired and you have loads of financial obligations to meet, the virus subsides! For the women, in the whirlwind of dishes, taking care of babies and daily routine, something has to give. So romance vacates and reality takes over. When it does, we confuse romance for true love and mistakenly think it has moved out and that we need to follow it. The truth of the matter is that true love does not die because romance bows to reality. The truth is if two people who ‘fell’ in love decides to ‘stand’ together in love through the challenges and opportunities of family life, romance can grow again, stronger and more resilient than ever. Love based on love alone doesn’t work when ‘for better’ meets ‘for worse’. But romance base on a decision to love ‘till death do us part’ is the only love that’s dependable, consistent and trust worthy. Romance bring us together but this kind of love keeps us together.

ACTION PLAN FOR TODAY

*make a list of the realities are you seeing in your present marriage or relationship? Take some time take some LOVE based decisions on each of those issues on the list.  

WORD CONFESSION

I am an evidence that Jesus Christ is alive and at work. Today I declare that my marriage is working out. The peace of the Lord is ruling and reigning in my home the love of God is prevailing in our circumstances in Jesus name

PRAYER POINTS

*Father God, thank you for bringing me and my family into this great and wonderful day in Jesus name

*Father God, you instituted marriage, grant me the understanding to make my marriage work in Jesus name

*Father God re-infuses the wine of love back into my marriage in Jesus name

*Father God, let the hold of the enemy on marriage be broken by fire in Jesus name

*I claim God’s peace for me and my family in Jesus name

*Father God, make my family an example of a godly and a glorious family in Jesus name

*Father God, thank you for hearing and answering my prayer in Jesus name
