Sin comes in all shapes and sizes. We may struggle with some more than others, and we may think that some are ‘less sinful’ than others. But the truth is that all sin is the same in God’s eyes. A thief is no ‘better’ than a murderer, and so we are no ‘better’ than anyone else.

Pretty much any sin you can think of starts with pride. Humans are selfish. We tend to think that the world revolves around us, when in reality it doesn’t. When we make life all about us, we deprive others of the love we are called to give.
When you find yourself struggling with pride, humble yourself. Remember that we are all the same before God, and remember that life is about bringing Him glory.
2. Idolatry
We may not realize it, but we often worship the world rather than God. We make idols of money, relationships, and material things without even knowing what we’re doing. We cannot serve both Jesus and the world.
We need to redirect our focus to the one true God to overcome the sin of idolatry.
3. Murder
Murder is not always a physical act. 1 John 3:15 says, “Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.” Jesus equates hatred with murder, and hatred is something we all struggle with.
To combat the sin of murder, we need to forgive and love others no matter how they have hurt us. We need to see them for who they were made to be instead of what they’ve done.
4. Dishonesty
God clearly speaks on the sin of lying throughout the Bible. Yet we seem to think we’re exempt from His judgment. We can’t justify lying when it’s at someone else’s expense. God never lied; He was very straightforward and honest when He laid out the way to heaven. And so we should also be willing to tell the truth, even if it hurts.
5. Jealousy
We covet all the time, whether it’s someone’s social status, appearance, or even happiness. But to complain is to deny that God is good. He knew what He was doing when He made you.
Instead of being jealous of what others have, be thankful for what you do have, for God gave you it for a reason.
No sin is unconquerable. God is much bigger than any of our temptations. We sin on a daily basis, sometimes without even knowing it. Sin is a lifestyle in all cultures. But Jesus came to erase our sin, and when we trust in Him, He will overcome our sin. He will bring us back to Him so that we can let our light shine before others.
